Alleged US Scott #125 On Ebay, What Are Your Thoughts?

Think the community may have some laughs with this one. Most expertizers will not certify a used stamp without original gum in these 114/125 no grill cases. Why does the seller think he has the hard white paper?

I am also curious to know why the expertizers believe that a pressed out grill cannot be discerned even with advanced technology they have available. Wouldn't there be some evidence of a paper disruption from the grill despite being pressed, something microscopic perhaps?

You have good eyes, I couldn't make it out on the other two.

Evidence of a grill bottom center (upper stamp) and center right (bottom stamp).

They are actually easier to see on the smaller image with all three together.

Yes - all 3 have grills. Easy to see. Another bozo seller...

I agree 100% - pressed out grills should be easy to detect. (As is the case in the item in question in this listing...)

But I also agree - it is "mindblowing" - that this nonsense happens on a daily basis!

That it happens regularly is not surprising. Greed+lack of knowledge=stupid listings. Since greed+lack of knowledge is a very common combination, so are the stupid listings common.

A 125 on ebay. What could possibly go wrong.

At least two examples of Scott 125 were offered as 114 and sold on ebay. In each case, the buyer was able to make an informed tentative ID. The first one sold for about $30.

I love it when people ask the expert for an opinion, get the opinion they don't want to see, then believe what they are going to believe anyway. Whether it is this guy on ebay, or a couple of others we've seen here on SCF lately. I call it the "Lottery Mentality" in America. Whether it's a lottery ticket, or a Scott 125 (or a 423A or 423E), some people just KNOW that God himself will look down upon THEM and dub them 'the chosen one'! At least with the lottery ticket, there is no wiggle-room with whether you have THE winner, or not. The numbers are clear and don't lie. Just goes to show you - a little knowledge (I am being generous) is truly dangerous!
