Help - Argentina 1858 Provincial Stamps

['ve had these Buenos Aires 1858 Provincials in my childhood collection since the late 1940s - early 1950s. They're unhinged and uncancelled.

Are they authentic? Value estimates?

Welcome to the club.......according to Scott these have been reprinted several times and counterfeits are abundant.....also, who would give a child expensive stamps ?

You know, it's funny that these show up in a lot of old-time collections, and chances are they're fake because they've been reprinted so many times, but I've yet to have ever seen one that is "certified" (whether professionally or on the assurance of someone in the know) in order to make a comparison.

Does anyone have a real one, or at least the image of a real one for comparison's sake?

It's very possible that these came from one of the mail order companies like Grolier. It's also possible that they came in trade between kids.

As to "who would give a child expensive stamps" I also have a very nice assortment of 1800s British Colonies, mostly cancelled, which hold some very interesting values which I also secured back in that era. My practice as a kid was to trade my "pretty stamps" of animals, cars, planes, etc for your ugly old beat up relics of stamps.

Yes, me too. It's amazing how many kids wound up with their grandfather's stamp collections and decided to use them as trading stock...

The good news is that your stamps do not have the characterfistics of the most common old forgeries. However they may be a more modern version. The most likely would be that they are less valuable reprints on thick, handmade paper or lithos on thinner paper. Of course, there always expertization for a fee, or having a specialist collector look at them for you or a specialist dealer may help you out. You can also 'google' "argentine forgeries postage stamps" and see what you get. Good luck.

A quick glance at your Argentines, they appear to all be fakes. Without going into details for each specific stamp, but just a list of problems among the stamps:

-- paper is way too white/clean
-- "C" should not be touching/crossing the inner frame
-- waviness of frame is not correct
-- right frame is too bowed around FRANCO
-- sun rays and mast/lines appear identical on all your stamps (this is NOT true of the originals)

You are free to seek a paid expert opinion, but I believe you would be wasting your money.
