Run across this beautiful North German Confederation cover today while moving stamp stuff into some new stamp shelves I built.

A very nice cover, but what I really love is the attractive write-up with the little map, and carefully arranged text. So thought I'd share with all.

I asked my father (from whom I inherited this & much of my collection) where it came from (as it's not his writing ). Turns out there's a nice story behind this too. When he first started collecting as a teen back in 1950s Illinois, an elderly German immigrant stamp collector in the town befriended him, gave him many of his seconds and sparked a love for German stamps (which later turned into a nice Berlin collection). This gentleman specially made this sheet for him and gave my father the cover as a present. Just makes it all the nicer that I now have it.

Very nice cover. They aren't expensive stamps by a long way, but really nice to see on cover. Thx for sharing with us.

Just recieved this 1869 NDP Cover in the mail.

It was described by the vendor as posted to Lier Belgium.

But is not. It actually says Hier, a old German way to indicate local post.(Hier and Alhier were also used in the Netherlands)

The 1/3 groschen stamp was not enough postage for a letter abroad, that is what made me look a bit better.

Nice. I'm guessing that my cover was then mailed abroad, with postage of 3 & 3/4 groschen. Unfortunately I can't make out the location of the addressee.
