hello,
so I inherited this massive stamp collection.
i was wondering what are some good resources to do research on?
any free stamp identification software reliable?
could you please advise me of what to do with the collection.
i am a beginner so catalogs can be quite complex for me.

The stamps that you've posted so far on other threads have been common ones that appear in most collections from a particular period. In general, a collection likely to contain more valuable stamps will be one to whichthe previous owner gave more time and detailed focus, rather than simply accumulating material as it came his or her way. The chances of finding better material in a general, realtively modern, collection are pretty low. I tend to work on the basis of a penny or two per stamp for this sort of material if sold en masse.

There's no substitute for getting a catalogue - try older editions on ebay - and working through it with your stamps. "Rare" means exactly that - the likelihood of finding rare, or even scarce or more valuable stamps in general collections from the 1940s-1960s is very low. And remember that catalogue prices are for stamps in perfect condition - and that most stamps sell for a fraction of those prices.
