24 Cents Washington 1861

Hello, I think it's Scott 70. Does anyone know the value of the stamp?

ebay - Looks like $20-100 but you never know the value of something until you put it up for sale!! I'm new at stamp collecting and probably have more money than common sense. Always surprised what some stamps are listed for and what similar stamps actually sell for. I look for condition and centering. And each day I scratch my head and wonder what someone else knows that I don't!!! Hahaaa, that's why I love this site so much. There are guys that know a lot!! My son will get a great collection and he'll know I had fun putting it together.

Your stamp has serious problems with the perforations on the top and bottom. Flawed stamps are worth no more than 1/10th of catalog value on the high side and no more than 1/20th on the low side.

Look on ebay to see examples of what #70 has sold for, and if any had serious flaws. If you were going to sell this you would probably want to put it out on ebay at 99 cents and see what happens. Good luck

This stamp is more likely US Scott #70, red lilac.

The 2017 Scott catalog value for #70 is $300, but in addition to the trimmed perfs, it appears to have a thin spot on the back, and at least one small tear. The cancel across Washington's eyes is another negative. This stamp would be tough to sell for more than $20.

Color hard to say due to monitors and how they affect color. I went to a couple of different computers with different monitors and after great scientific research I will agree and change my color to Red Lilac and thus a Scott #70. Its either a #70 or #70c.

Condition of the stamp is bad, I wouldn't buy. Top and bottom perfs are cut, stamp looks to be in pretty bad shape. Probably a placement holder until the collector could find a better one.

I buy a lot of stamps off ebay and I do think if you put it up for sale, you'd most likely get $10-20. Probably more on the $10 side.
