I am considering purchasing this cover, but I cannot find the combination of the overprint on this stamp in Scott's Classic specialized catalog (neither can the seller).

Any help or analysis is appreciated.

Hi Turtle2900,

This is a postcard stamp, issued from 1889 onwards by the OFS Post Office. The postcards were sold franked with adhesives and some were later surcharged, like yours.

SG has them listed, yours is catalogue number P6 with a value for the stamp at £4.75 - SG says the stamp on postcard is worth more.

Hope this helps

Looking at the shape of the numbers, and noting the break at the bottom of the shield, I think it is actually SG P9.

You can see the differing versions on this site:

Thank you 22crows. Great site with all the details. Does SG provide a catalogue value for SG P9?

SG shows £3.00 for a used example off card. As Bobby mentioned, examples on card are worth more (but SG does not say just how much more).

Apologies for the omission, I was quoting from the 2018 SG catalogue.

while SG says it is worth more on cover, keep in mind that SG catalog values are just like Scott catalog values - actual values that people pay tend to be percentages of catalog unless there is something unusual or rare about the item such as being from a famous person or coming from a small and rarely seen post office or such.
