Australia 1972 - Variety Confirmed!

I noticed this remark in the ACSC yesterday concerning the 50th Anniversary of the Country Women's Association issue:

"A mint block of 4 has been reported showing the magenta printing omitted from the upper pair, and largely omitted from the lower pair. The error mainly affects the women's [sic] face and neck, which appear white and also increases the intensity of the green colouring of the stamp. Listing is suspended pending verification of the genuineness of these stamps."

I checked my stockbooks a found a copy of the error referred to in the note. It's in MNH condition:



I wonder if the ACSC were ever able to verify this error. If not, here it is!

Both colour shifts. Look at top and bottom margins of first scan and left and right margins of second scan.

The first scan shows clearly the magenta in oval beneath 1922-1972

I don't think so. There is no magenta (I call it pink) on the second stamp. Where did the pink face and neck go? And the background is clearly greenish. If it were a case of a simple colour shift, the stamp would look pretty much the same in fact, only a little blurred or 'out of focus,' so to speak.

A regular issue

I can see the variety at the bottom of the oval of the top stamp, but the bottom stamp needs to be more in detail such as the regular issue shown above.

Though it does seem to have the appearance of the white face mentioned.
