Hi:
Does anyone have any info on what can't be seen here on this R51c? I believe it's the company C&A which was founded in 1841 in Holland.

Thanks for trying that out but I think that has to be "N.Y." at the bottom.

Not sure that the first letter is a C. It might be a broken B.

I thought that at first but the C&A seemed to make better sense to me at the time.

I agree with Bart (revcollector). More likely to be a broken B or D. Compare it with the C in DEC at center. It's different in style. Also, attributing it to a specific "C&A" company while ignoring all of the letters following the A, probably isn't the best approach.

Gentlemen I see what you are saying. I too was looking at that also, but kind of convinced myself that it was a C, as the centre line does not appear to be there at all and thinking it seemed a bit too squared up appearing.

I also compared it to the B. At the end of the line. That first letter did not slant or curve around as fast to the right or as much as is seen in that last B. That was my reasoning for considering it C also.

I am just glad there are people here who are very knowledgable, and share that information to help those of us who are looking to gain an education. Thanks to the Rev. guys.

But has anyone an opinion on the placename in cancel?
