His/her philatelic description is rather better than his/her political one!

Geoff,
Scott does not list a Catalogue #1 for Slovakia.
Would that be the Czech stamp, I posted in the first post ?

http://www.tomfijala.cz/Slovensko/index/main2.htm lists SG Slovakia # 1 / Scott Czechoslovakia # 254A / Michel Tschechoslowakei # A405 / POFIS Československo # 350, which was issued on Jan. 18, 1939 and was valid for postage exclusively in Slovakia until Jan. 31, 1939, as Slovakia # 0
while the POFIS Slovenský stát 1939-1945 catalogue ( see http://www.frantisekbenes.cz/wp-con...-1939-45.pdf ) lists as Slovakia #1 what appears as Scott Czechoslovakia # 255 / Michel Slovakia # 23 / POFIS Československo # 351x. It had been printed in Bohemia and Moravia under German occupation exclusively for use in Slovakia, where it was issued on March 30, 1939 and was valid for postage until July 31, 1940.

The message on the postcard postmarked "Pezinok 13.IV.1939" is of philatelic interest. It reads:

Fabulous work Florian, thank you very much indeed.
I trust Geoff will be delighted with his PC translation...fascinating.
Illustrates how good we have it these days, with queries answered with elan, and deep knowledge.

Florian - Fantastic! Thank you for opening a window on a moment in time. Early in a grim period for Czechoslovakia (I wonder what became of the two correspondents?), and a shameful memory for Great Britain.

You lot are too kind!
Members here, and the Forum, inspire me also, it's my morning "regular"

Note: On the design "Block Type N" Newspaper stamps.
It shows the printing "type" letter punches.
These type of punches, with a special "L" shaped adaptor, that held the "type" whilst the adaptor was struck with a hammer, was the method of imprinting the letters (in the 4 corners) on the "Penny Black" stamp of England.

Commemorative Postmarks.
1. Red Opening of Slovak Parliament.
2. Orange Auto Post.
(Not my sheets)

When the overprints were applied, 2 plates of 50 subjects were used. Plate 1 and Plate 2, (Hence the varieties shown on this thread previously).

The 100 Czech stamp sheets, were broken in 2 sheets of 50, and the outer margins removed.
