This just came in my mail today. It is a real pity that the Mulready suffered such an inglorious demise just 2 months after it was being issued on 6 May 1840. I have wondered why the Mulready couldn't coexist with the penny pink. A machine was even created to destroy the returned stationery.
This is the cleanest unused 2d sheet I could get...
Bobby, there are Mulready stationery available readily, but the challenge has always been to get good clean ones, whether used or unused. I find it easier to get a used Mulready rather than a good unused one. Many of the unused Mulreadys I come across are heavily toned or in a less desirable state. The 2d unused letter sheets and envelopes are harder to come by compared to the 1d ones. For used Mulready, those with black or red Maltese crosses can be easily obtained, those with a penny black or two pence blue used on them are extremely rare and hard to come by. I am still searching for them...of course at a good price :)
Rod, first time seeing the block. As I am somewhat an artist, I can appreciate the work that went into creating that design.
