Noticed last week my Windows 7 would not let me crop images from my file, in my file area. Can see the cropping tool but is appears to be turned off. At the time I thought that this 9 year old lap top was on its way out.
But a coffee spill destroyed that lap top 2 days ago. Needed a Windows 7 because my scanner will not work with Windows 10. Went to our computer tech and he had a reconditioned Windows 7 and at the time I thought that my issue with cropping images in my file area would be over but no it has the same result as the other Windows 7. The cropping tool seems to be turned off. We have found a way around cropping an image in the file area but it takes a lot more time. To have someone else crop my images before I list is bliss. With so many images to list it is a real pain for my very under paid helper to pre-crop for me.
Has anyone else come across this type of issue?

KGV, I can't help with the Windows problem, but if you're cropping stamp scans, you might try the free app I wrote to do that. |

Your scanner will work with Windows 10 if you buy and use a 3rd party scanner application like VueScan. VueScan not only supports older scanners, but has superior features such as batch scanning and file naming. Time savers and worth the money.
Windows 7 is past EOL (End of Life) and has security vulnerabilities. Don |

KGV - if you right-click on your scanned image, you should get an "Open with" on the drop-down. Then go to Microsoft Office, which is where I crop and resize pictures. |

Another application that has a crude cropping tool is Microsoft Paint. It is included with Windows OS. You can open it by selecting the Windows globe and then the Program choices will appear. Go to Accessories and find Paint.
Open paint then open your file and you can crop it and save it.
There are better options. This is only if you don't have Office or some other application. |

I still scan on my windows XP machine from 1999. I don't like the new scanners for coins.
To crop I use a program called click2crop on my Windows 10. I scan a whole scanner bed full, copy it with a USB to my windows 10 and the click2crop allows me to crop each item individually as well as labeling them individually
I have been doing this since about 2003. |

Thank you to everyone who has replied and I will look into all the options given to me here. Can use the right click. It seems to be the quickest option at present or it is back to cropping as I list. Interesting! Thank you Don for sharing this info. Had a number of so called computer techs tell me there is no way to adjust windows 10 to my canoscan lide 600f. Quote: Your scanner will work with Windows 10 if you buy and use a 3rd party scanner application like VueScan Need to limp in to the end of this financial year. Will be able to get a decent computer & scanner then. With my needs it looks like I need to go back to a tower system & not a lap top. 6 days ago had my ex windows 7 lap top serviced for the 1st time in 9 years. 63 viruses and Avast Antivirus has been installed. John, I am a big fan of Postmaster's "Stampfix" and donate every year. I use Picasa for image manipulation. For computer health, I use "Glary utilities" $46 I think, fabulous software. Great for Win 7 One click..about 12 seconds...... It can also release memory on the Win7 platform if you get sluggish. |

Hi KGV, The $4 download seems fishy to me.
Always double check that you aren't being sold an 'upgrade' which would require an existing registered copy of the application. I have no issues with a digital download.
There are two versions, 'Standard' and 'Professional'. The standard version is about $30 (US)/$40(US) direct from Hamrick and the Professional version is about $80(US).
Frankly I would buy directly from Hamrick, this is especially true for software that I would be using in any commercial activity. Since it is used by business, I would then write it off on my taxes as a business expense.
You can typically search on 'VueScan coupon' and dig up some discount codes which you can plug into the checkout at Hamrick to get somewhere between 20%-35% off. Don |

A treasure! Thanks Don.
This sort of thing is hard yards for me. When they talk about down loads from a mystery source it was even worrying to me!
To pay $80 from the true supplier a of VueScan is cheap so to have peace of mind.To tell the truth I thought it would be a lot more expensive. Can try to get a discount from the supplier. Thanks for supplying me with the contact name.
The reading I have done about this program is very interesting. Certainly would use it to the max and sounds like a huge time saver with a better outcome.
And as you say it can be used as a deduction at tax time. |

Hi Don
Another question if would please.
So I should buy this VueScan on my windows 10?
Does this matter which computer I use to purchase or will it be usable for both my windows 7 & 10?
Can it be reused with USB stick? |
