Venturing Into Revenues, Question On An Og Stamp

In my quest to break down collections for sale, I've come across a bunch of Revenues. I have very little knowledge in this area and I'm trying to learn. What I'm looking at are mostly perforated first issue stamps and they seem pretty straightforward to identify. They are used, or when they appear unused, have no gum. I'm assuming they are all used except this one. It appears to be unused with original gum (hinged).

I have two questions. 1) There is a complex design on the gum. Is that normal? 2) Do OG stamps command any kind of premium? The cat for the used stamp is $1.

The pattern you're seeing on the back is the result of the stamp adhering to a collectors album page, and pulled off at some point.

As for gum, possibly, but a disturbed gum like this wouldn't likely be exciting to collectors.

I would suggest rather, the pattern on the back is from being previously attached to a document similar to this promissory note (image borrowed from ebay), which had a variety of printed patterns in the area reserved for stamp placement. Thus the stamp is more likely used but uncanceled.

john is correct in what he said about the stamp in question. it often appears on 1st issue revenue stamps.

Ah, yes, I agreed. In either case, its an occlusion from another page, and not part of the gumming...

Interesting, and makes sense. The gum however seems quite complete an intact. So that's odd, but I think I get the idea. I'll just include this in with the bulk lot I'll be posting up on ebay. There are a handful of higher catalog items in there, so hopefully it will have some appeal. Thanks.
