It's certainly a flap of black paper or fabric lying over the record and not a chunk taken out of it, since it's in the same position on both sides.

Roberto- I thought that too. But not one of his record or stamps has sold.
If you are unfamiliar with how laundering works on ebay try household items- I found it trying to buy deodorant cheap. Single sticks would be selling for $22 or some other crazy amount.. and all would sell.

I think that the black in that image has been added with a an imaging program using an 'air brush' type tool. They wanted to air brush out something out of the image (perhaps their fingers holding the record?). If you zoom into the edge of the black area, it appears to have been added.
