mine looks a little darker and sharper than what I'm seeing ... is it typical variation? The stamp is on a cover with very blurry date so no help there.
Can you send an image of the entire, and can you get a better scan of the stamp? It does look odd, my first reaction is that its re-backed, as the margin's don't match the stamp (internally it is whiter than the paper it is on). And it's placement in the square vs. the cancellation look suspect.
