Hi,

What was the rules concerning Foreign Field post received with a Military franchise (Free).

I have this card from FOIX in France received in Montréal for a smaller village. A Nr.127 2 cents as been affixed in Montréal.

"Dépôt" Hand stamped of the 599e Régiment d'infanterie (French Army).

Best regards

I found this, I am just surprised the soldier had a Canadian stamp on him and I doubt that he needed it- see where he wrote (Canada)

Why did Canada join ww1?
The Canadian Parliament didn't choose to go to war in 1914. ... So when Britain's ultimatum to Germany to withdraw its army from Belgium expired on 4 August 1914, the British Empire, including Canada, was at war, allied with Serbia, Russia, and France against the German and Austro-Hungarian empires.Aug 5, 2013

Note that the card was mailed on 9 June. The Canadian stamp was applied in Montreal and cancelled on 28 June for subsequent delivery.

Hi,

Just saw I made a typo error for the Regiment, it is 59e not 599e.

Probably, the card arrived in Montréal via New York. May be a favor made to avoid a postage due for the addressee.

Mlle Chapais did serve as a civilian medical volunteer during previous years of that war.

Best regards
