I stumbled across this one in duplicates. Apparently I thought it was a Chicopee Falls MASS, but now I see it only has one L.

Not much to go on here. Appears to be Mar 1917 so the 481 is in the right time period. I've searched my data base of Schermack covers/users and find no towns ending ALS. I searched the primary Schermack states and found no towns ending in ALS. In fact I haven't found any town ending in ALS at all.

Perhaps someone has a query program, as this doesn't appear to be a common ending. Maybe I'm way off base and it is something completely different.

Jim Forte's website has a post office list including a field for searching for partial words. Specifically, entering "ALS" returns several possibilities, the main one being Shoals, but also Beals, Deals, O'Neals, Ryals, and Seals on just the first few pages of results.

I looked at that sight but wasn't aware of the search capability. I'll have to go back and try to find it.

THANK YOU, that was interesting. Still no closer to pinning this down. Most of those PO were not operating at the time this stamp was produced.

What I did notice with the cancel I could look at, the year was below the time. On my stamp I see a 17 and am assuming that is the year. Is it possible that it is a train number and this is an RPO cancel ??
