Are these considered double impressions? It looks to me like there is doubling on the P in postage on both the 2 and 3 cent stamps. And a double button on the 3 cent..? Anyone know more about identifying these types?

The two cent looks like a muddy print, the paper was too wet. The three cent looks very similar to many 1917 offset revenues, which is more of a kiss print caused by the plate bouncing a bit as it prints. The two images are very close together and appear to be relatively the same strength. Double impressions are usually farther apart with one significantly stronger then the other.

The 3c looks like a double transfer to me. Do you know it's catalogue number?

DAF_16. - Be smart. Spend the money and get your stamps certified, especially the 3c Offset. While I have a great deal of respect for REV COLLECTOR's opinion... get the opinion in writing from where it counts. The Philatelic Foundation or the APS. Getting a Certificate from an "expert" from some one who specializes in that particular field is always the best bet. It's like needing brain surgery.

A Proctologist and a Brain Surgeon both study at the same school and learn how to operate in different areas of the body. However, if I needed brain surgery, I certainly wouldn't want to be looked at by a Proctologist when I should have my condition checked and verified by a Brain Surgeon; if you know what I mean.

Thx everyone for your feedback. I may have it certified just to be sure. And I'm not quite sure what the catalog number would be yet. I'll be doing more research later on this week!

Cat number should be 530. It's a scarce stamp used if it actually is a double impression. It's not a double transfer however.

The 3-cent offset stamp shows the effects of an incomplete cleaning of the plate cylinder. Ink captured by the plate would be deposited on the offset cylinder and then transfer to the paper. Remaining ink on the plate cylinder would be washed off with water before the next impression cycle. If the impression was very heavy or the water fountain for the plate was running dry, ink from the previous impression would build up on the plate and leave excess ink on the offset cylinder and appearing as a weak double of the new impression. This type of printing flaw is commonly found on newspapers printed on an offset press. While in high school, I worked for the local paper and sometimes operated an offset press that dated from the same era as the ones used to print offset stamps.

Thank you again for all the helpful information! The printing process is cool to understand. Makes sense to me. And I also know it's not the best photo to begin with. So double thx for taking the time to look it over!

I think you may want to log onto Re-entries.com...I believe your second stamp is a SLIP print and not a KISS print...Check it out.
