I am working on a small stash of Poland stamps and have found in a group of SC 215-226 that the denominations have two different spellings. SC 215,217,219 and 225 are spelled "GROSZ" and 216,218,220,221,223, and 224 are spelled "GROSZY".

Are these two different issues or are the spellings correct as is? Scott is silent on this.

I do not have 221 or 226, so cannot comment on their spellings.

Any comments from the Poland experts are most welcome. Thanks.

Donald

Hi.
Grosz is for value 1 only
Grosze for values 2 and 3
Groszy for all of higher values
Seems like there's no incorrection, but may we see your stamps?

Slavic numbers are complicated. "One" inflects like an adjective, 2-4 are followed by nouns with nominative plural case endings in Polish, numbers 5 and above are followed by nouns with genitive plural endings (so "five of horses", for example). This system is reflected on these stamps.

Merci, Vayolene, pour votre explication et pour les photos. Aussi, a Perf12 pour autre photos.

Thank you, Hlewagastiz for the concise explanation of the reasons for the differences.

My apologies to all; number 226 should not have been included in my list.
