Hi all,

I've purchased a stamp recently labeled as Labuan SG5. However, I can't find any crown + CC watermark on the scan. Is the circled area part of the WM? Is it possible a SG1? I tried to read up reference online but can't find any example for SG1 WM. I need your help guys!

Thanks for your help in advance~

On SG1 it's the usual crown of CA watermark, I believe always sideways and also with only half of it normally showing on one stamp. The crown and CC watermark can be any orientation.

The color as I see it on my monitor is (deep) yellow green, so then it's a SG5.

thanks hy-brasil,
I didnt know sg5 wm orientation can be any direction. so far the examples I see are all vertical. By half, do you mean crown and ca are separated or the crown and ca are cut off?
do you know whats the color on sg1?

Sorry not to be specific the first time. By "half", the watermark is never fully square on the stamp because the crown and CA together are more widely spaced apart in this watermark type:

So only the crown OR the "CA" appears on a single small-size stamp. This image was taken from a large-size stamp.

Note that if you reverse the parts, it looks like a normal Crown CA watermark sideways except that the crown and "CA" parts are always split over two small-size stamps. SG shows "CA" as having taller narrower letters than on the typical upright Crown CA watermark. That seems to be true much of the time for this watermark but is not so on the example shown.

SG lists the color of #1 as blue-green. Just checking around I found: http://stampsjournal.com/labuan/labuan-stamps/ which shows the difference quite well, in my opinion.
