Hello Timm

The translation for "Eidgenössisches Schützenfest" is more or less "Swiss sports riflemen's festival".

In Switzerland, we sometimes call ourselves "Eidgenossen". Legend has it that Switzerland was founded by the three original cantons with one oath (=Eid).

Greetings from Switzerland.

André

Many years ago I played in a brass band concert in the cathedral in Chur.

There was a very long reverberation time and we had to slow everything down to make the music sound.

It was certainly the slowest we ever played the Festmusik der Stadt Wien fanfare.

The slogan is in all four national languages reflecting the local use of and status of Romansch.

I believe the symbol and arms show an ibex.

Ibex, an astounding animal,
I have a particular sensitivity to heights, which makes this all the more terrifying..............

Google this for a Utube vid

Nigel,
not ashamed to say I have a "man-crush" on Professor Cox
I have all his documentaries.
Absolutely fabulous stuff.
Such an intelligent fellow, used to be in a rock band.
