I don't really know why, but this stamp seems especially interesting to me. When I looked it up online, it seemed to indicate that it was from the Spanish Civil War. Is this an official stamp?

The translation to English is "Years to win or die."

Related question: Does selvage usually increase value of a stamp, or does it just depend?

Aha! Found it in my catalogue..........

Catalogue : Vinetas Politicas Republicanas de la Guerra Civil Espanola.

Opinion: No it generally doesn't, unless has script, or design.
However always try and preserve it, it protects the perforations, and reduces the attack of "toning"

Selvedge with script or designs can be fabulously valuable on some stamps.

Rod - you'll recall from your days studying English literature that George Orwell fought with the POUM. Vide Homage to Catalonia,

Geoff,
I must have been away that day.
I am googling it now.
You have a vastly superior knowledge on European politics than I.
