Here is a GB KGV 2½d. SG# 437, Scott #209 K29 Corner Control block of 6 with plate mark. This is the small white dot in the lower vertical marginal line, in between perfs 12 and 13. K29 and L29 are the controls for this stamp and both are know to have the inverted watermark variety. This variety takes this single stamp from having a MNH catalogue value of £20 for the common blue shade (which my copy is) to a staggering £3500.

I wish...

Have a good one,

Skilo54

Yes, thanks rod22 for the correction! I had the worst headache I have ever had yesterday and it obviously affected my counting skills.

Did those stamps ever show up Rod? I got word from Cephus that my mailing to him took 6 weeks! Unbelievable, but at least they finally arrived! Wowsers!

Anyways, I am home early from work today, 'Job then home' day, just had to strike a set on location.

Whatever shall I do..... --->--->

Have a good one,

Skilo54

Hi Skilo,
hope the headache disappears,
I fell asleep on the lounge a few weeks ago
after a long cycle ride, and must have pulled a muscle in my neck,
the headache was a killer!
Don't want to revisit that one.

I have two problems with SCF auctions,
1 is matching avatar name to person,
I get lots of auctions.
I always respond with what I receive, in London Bus's
"Feedback" thread.

I am sure your cover arrived, if you let me know what you
sent I'll confirm
Cheers.

Today happens to be the anniversary of KGV's (perhaps controversial) death from cancer. Were there many stamps issued for the funeral?

I upgraded the centering on a couple more Georges.

The perfs aren't perfect on the 8d, and the 1sh6d could be better, but I haven't run across another lately at a nice price.

Did I mention I love the internets? In the old days, if you wanted to upgrade just one or two stamps out of a set, you'd be hard pressed to find a dealer who would break a set, or trade one stamp. Now...

And you'd have to rely on the dealer's description, if you could find one with a spare of the stamp you needed. And then the correspondence to secure the stamp would probably take a month or so, if the dealer was overseas. And then paying for it ...

In my opinion George 5 was a serious philatelist...i would not put FDR in his catagory..George 5 had the good stuff..when you tour the Roosevelt estate the Parkie giving the tour tells you that the Roosevelt collection was not particularly valuable but the fact that it belonged to FDR brought higher prices...

There again, possibly FDR could have been a tad more serious if he had had:
a personal stamp curator
a wedding present of 1500 rare stamps from the Royal Philatelic Society
a free New Issue service for half the Empire
a virtually bottomless purse funded by the British working class and the oppressed people of 100+ countries
sod all else to do all day.

Me bitter? Not so as you'd notice.

A couple more good-looking definitives:

The 4d value from Cayman Islands

and

the 1-shilling St Vincent bistre-brown

The St. Vincents are tougher to find with good centering. I thought this one was not bad until I scanned it. Now it looks terrible.

Okay, "terrible" might have been a bit of an overstatement.
I was upgrading from one that has perfs cutting into the frame.
