Letter sheets are usually folded up, but there are some who prefer to spread it out when keeping in their albums or folders. For old fragile letter sheets, do you guys store them in your albums opened or folded?

I have French stampless letters. If there's content, I put them in a clear A4 or similar page protector, which enables me to see both address, postmark etc and content. But mine have little financial value!

From the National Archives

That said, unfolding rare or historical documents should only be done by conservation experts in environmentally controlled conditions (ie. high humidity to prevent paper damage); this is especially true if the paper folds are stiff, unyielding, and resisting any unfolding.

But once you have the paper or document unfolded, store it flat and unfolded.

What if the content of the letter is unimportant and the main part carrying the value is just the area where the stamp is affixed? I also have unused Mulready letter sheets in the folded state, not sure whether to store that unfolded since it came folded originally.

From a preservation perspective, unfolded.
From a presentation perspective, do what makes you happy.
