I plead the fifth, your honor.
Better yet, maybe I'll just buy a fifth.

They apparently don't know how to read a catalog. For War Savings stamps, there is no such thing as "unused without gum". As per the footnote in Scott, mint stamps MUST have gum, uncancelled stamps without gum are used. The used catalog is about half the mint catalog, and the opening bid is about 40% of that. Seems too high to me. |

Actually, for the early war savings stamp Scott has a specific without gum listing (which is cheaper than used - at least for WS3, the "used" stamps were frequently cancelled).

But it is still listed in the used column. And it happens often enough to have the uncancelled listing at a somewhat lower cat value. The stamp would probably realize about the same price anyway, since there are certainly collectors who prefer an uncancelled stamp. That difference does not matter all that much; "unused without gum" does. |

If you read the catalog you would see a footnote that states that all War Savings stamps must have gum to be mint. All stamps without gum are used, they were soaked off of the savings cards when they did not happen to get cancelled. This was not an uncommon occurrence. This description from Siegel is just as wrong as the one from Cherrystone. Even they make mistakes occasionally. |

Interesting. They made the same "mistake" over and over. I will email Andrew and see what is up. |

The last time was 2012, so he might know nothing about it. There was a regummed example in 2015. |
