Good Morning,

I have a G.B. 1887-92 4p stamp where the top right 4d has a broken "d" and looks more like an "omega" symbol with a dot above it.

Do I have something here and is this a common type?

Thanks!

soldjer777,
Scott doesn't list a plate variety. It's quite likely that either the ink did not transfer to the stamp properly during printing, due to some foreign object coming in contact with the plate or paper, or it didn't get properly inked on the plate. This kind of thing is common, and may vary from unique to uncommon. To be a plate variety, you'd need to prove its existence on multiple stamps. These kind of minor variations occur a lot, and can be of interest to collectors, but that doesn't translate to "rare stamp". Notiticing (searching for) these types of variations has it's own term in philately which is "fly specking", referring to very tiny modifications to the image that could be caused by a wide variety of issues, but not necessarily specifically plate flaw or variety.
What you have appears to be common. It's diminished by the condition of the stamp though, with the piece missing from the bottom right of the stamp.

Methinks I see a crease running through that "d".
