The vilayets of Damascus and Aleppo were allowed to have an Arabian Kingdom government. Stamp issues of the Arabian government were released between November, 1918, and January, 1920. I think the attached may be one or more of them. I can not find these Scott numbers. Any suggestions?

Thanks

They weren't really "allowed" to have an Arab government. An Arab government that, in essence, covered Greater Syria was key to the agreement between the Sherif of Mecca and the British Government that led to the Arab revolt against the Ottomans. In two of the most squalid episodes in British foreign policy, Britain then betrayed this agreement, first by the Sykes-Picot carve-up of Arab territories, then by the Balfour Declaration. As allied forces moved north through Syria in 1918, Lawrence was desperate to get Faisal to Damascus to stake a physical claim, which did not hold. The Paris peace treaty saw a set of mandates for Britain (in Iraq and Palestine) and France (in Syria/Lebanon) that were almost entirely disastrous, and whose results are with us still.

Thanks, one of the first places I looked, but alass I could not see for some reason.

I really appreciate the background.

Sounds like the British and French were up to Their normal in those days; bad deal and historically a mess that may never be resolved. Bless you.

Thank you both for your input. I hope I can do these stamps justice.
