Amazing little cover here. I could say why but that would take away all of the fun for some people.

Got to say, though, I don't understand your heading for this thread. I looked 'cause I was curious, but didn't expect to find this.
Just saying'.

I assume the cancel date is really 1861, since to my knowledge it can't be 1851.

Well each stamp is a bit different, to quite a bit different. It not just the mixed usage that is notable with this cover.

Is Baskin Roberts still around? I used to go to the one near the Boston Common. Great stuff. Love the portions and flavors. Never saw any stamps at the one I went too. But Boston is historical and I can see the Ben Franklin tie to the whole thing. Postmarked in idaho? Interesting things.

Looks like a Type III or IIIa (I'm not good enough to tell from the scan) plus two number 9, one with a major DT.

Bart is getting close. For one thing, he knows where Dubuque is. He also sees one major DT.

I see the extra lines on the left #9 as well, but I am not sure of exactly what they are.

I keep thinking about the triple transfer one inverted but I am not sufficiently knowledgeable on all the variations.

Somebody used up some quirky old stamps as demonetization loomed. Good stuff.

That would not have mattered much in Iowa or Pennsylvania. And the #63 had only just come out a few days before.
