The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) on Saturday said it'll pay tribute to former President George H.W. Bush by putting his image on a commemorative Forever stamp.

The agency scheduled a "first-day-of-issue ceremony" for June 12 at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in College Station, Texas, while noting that the date is the former commander in chief's birthday.

I think that's a very fitting tribute to the former president. I think I'll stop by the post office that day and pick one up.

I think a younger portrait would look more like him when he was in office.

The colors are very subdued - so many shades of grey!

I always remembered him with a slightly thinner face.

I can't say I'm happy with this, nor will a lot of people over 25 or so. Where'd they get this portrait? It appears to be as he appeared ten years ago as an ex-president. Possibly they let his family have the final say or what they used and maybe they automatically went with something that looked familiar to them. This is not what he looked like as president.

Very disappointing,,

It is a portrait of Bush painted by award-winning artist Michael J. Deas (also did Marilyn Monroe, Humphrey Bogart, Bette Davis, James Dean, Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Katherine Ann Porter, Stephen Vincent Benet, Thorton Wilder, Thomas Wolfe, Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, Tennessee Williams.)
It is based on a 1997 photograph taken by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders.

I suspect that, in most cases, the family of the deceased celebrity has a major say in the picture/photo to be used to depict said person.

I'm with you. I think he looks very dignified there.

It's a nice portrait in my opinion, would have been nice if they could have incorporated the pic of him in his dive bomber in WW2. Just saying.

With a presidential memorial stamp being a tradition for many decades, I'll bet each president works with the USPS to select/approve his own image/design before his own passing.

Actually, in this case, it was President George H.W. Bush who selected the photograph used in creating the stamp, making it a very simple process for the USPS.
