If you're using the Scott catalogues, your two stamps are listed within the "Iran" section.

Beleive first stamp is from 1936 - 37 series. And the second from 1926 - 29 series.

The one on the left is Scott 859, 30 dinars bright green, and because it lacks the text banner across the bottom that was present on design A57, that says "Postes Iraniennes" it must be from design A58, and therefore issued 1938-39, rather than 1936-37. The other one is design A40, a 1 chahi (the currency in Persia/Iran has changed many times over the years) yellow green, and depending on whether it's the original drawing or the redrawn one, it's either Scott 723 or 740.

And by the way, stampboylife, your request helped me to find out something I hadn't really thought about much, but nevertheless, just learned while looking up these 2 stamps in my Scott catalog, and that is exactly when the name of the country changed from Persia to Iran. It looks like it took place in 1935, because three earlier sets of stamps which were inscribed with the French words "Postes Persanes" (Persian Post)were overprinted "Postes Iraniennes" (Iranian Post) some time in 1935. Scott 795-809, 810-817, and 818-826. It's also worth noting that, while it doesn't apply to these two stamps because they are both from after 1925, most Persian stamps issued between 1870 and 1925 were extensively forged or reprinted, making this area of collecting a very dicey proposition unless you really know what you're doing, or consult experts, and obtain certificates of authenticity. As noted in the info box in Scott, for many of these early issues, forgeries outnumber genuine stamps 10 or 20 to one.

Wow, I had no idea. Thank you so much for enlightening me on this topic!
I had no clue of so many forgeries, I guess I just tend to think all my stamps are real :) Ignorance is bliss!

Here is an excellent resource for those who want to study the early stamps of Persia/Iran; and gain knowledge as to the forgeries and reprints.

www.persi.com

I have the 2002 catalogue for work on 10-12 pages of old Persian stamps that came with a world wide collection I bought in the 1990s. Maybe I'll get to them and maybe not, since Persia/Iran is not a specialty area for me. Later catalogues are expensive, but, I would think, essential for study of these old Persian issues.

The Serrane Guide, published by the APS, has some references. One can further check out Linn's Focus on Forgeries, by the late stamp forgeries expert, Varro E. Tyler. Professor Tyler also did a forward for the Serrane book. I suspect, but have not checked, that the APRL will have some other sources, available for check-out by members.

Anyone in US not familiar with the APS/APRL, I strongly advise becoming a member. Visit: www.stamps.org for more info.
