On July 6, 1959 the USSR issued this 40k stamp (Sc #2216) depicting an Eurasian red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) as part of its 1957-9 "Fauna of the USSR" series.
Here is the 1.10 + .15mk value (Facit #916) from Finland's August 16, 1982 "Red Cross:Endangered Small Mammals" set of 3. Stamp depicts flying squirrel (Pteromys volans).
Cartoonist and children's author Mauri Kunnas (b. 1950) has designed several sets of stamps for his Finnish home country. This 3.20 markka value (Facit #1367) from the 1996 set of 3 which he designed, depicts Santa with a red squirrel helper.
Here is another Finnish squirrel. This one appears on one of six designs from Finland's May 7, 2003 "Moominland Midwinter" booklet of 1st class domestic rate stamps. Moomins and Moominland were the 1940's creation of Swedish-speaking Finnish author, artist and illustrator Tove Jansson (1914-2001) whose photo is shown below.
And, here is another Finnish stamp with a squirrel. This one is the November 2, 1991 1.70 markka discount Christmas stamp (Facit #1125) showing Santa leading a candlelight parade in the snow.
