As far as New South Wales goes, Jeffryes is better known for his forged 1st barred numerals types on his Sydney Views and Laureate forgeries.

I found this Jeffryes forgery recently, with a forged rays type cancel of Hartley. Even the 6 watermark is forged!

These stamps are undenominated but paid the 6d registration fee. They were withdrawn on 1 January 1868 when the fee was reduced to 4d and was then paid using ordinary postage stamps.

After looking through some auction catalogues, I found another example. This one is from the Carrington auction (Millennium, November 2012) lot no. 471.

This one has a forged cancellation of Shoalhaven. Sorry about the picture, the source file is quite small.

Bobby De La Rue, what reference do you use to identify them as Jeffryes forgeries?

The full Carrington page is shown on Millennium's site http://millenniumauctions.com.au/se...t_auction=54 which identifies the Jeffryes forgery.

Hutson (p27) also cautiously stated the "moderately good forgeries" were Jeffryes.
