I came across this stamp and was not sure if it is an 1898 1C Chinese Imperial Post Large or Small Dragon. The color seems to be orange brown. I am new to this and learning everyday. It appears to be in good condition, Am I on the right track?

Have you compared the overprint on your sample with that pictured on Scott 161?

From your photo appears perhaps part of the overprint "lifted".

"Large" or "small" dragon refers to the two designs of stamp issued by China between 1878 and 1888. Your stamp design was originally issued in 1898 (with watermark) and 1900 (without watermark). Your stamps date from 1912, having been overprinted after the revolution of 1911.

First it is not one of the Imperial Dragon stamps ,it is a later issue .Your stamp is one of the Issues of the Republic stamps . I believe it is the 1912 issue with the overprint of the Commericial Press,Shanghai, Scott 161 in the color called ocher.

These are commonly refered to as the Imperial post "coiling dragon issues".
