Because of all the variations, I'm moving my China collection (thru 1960) from Scotts Big Blue to Steiner pages. I'm almost having fun!

I've sorted the early 1900s "Junk" stamps into the London print and the Peking prints. However, a couple of what I believe to be London prints (calm waves, long right pennant) do not belong in the 1913 London print section.

Specifically, one is a 1 1/2 cent violet, and the other 4 cent gray or gray green. These (according to Scotts) belong in the Peking printings.

Am I missing something here, or is my separation of the stamps wrong?

Thank you for taking your time with me, it means a lot.

Have you looked at the 1923 issues? Which are types of 1913 - 1919 issues re-engraved .

Specifically Scott 250 and 253..

As many on this Forum have already concluded, the Scott catalogue is a starting point. And not the definitive resource.

For China I use Ma's Illustrated Catalogue of the Stamps of China. I have the 1998 edition which works great for my needs. Includes the issues of the Customs Post (1878 - 1896) through the ROC Silver Yuan issues (1949).

Specific to the Re-Engraved Republican Issue (Second Peking Printing) (e.g., the issues about which you inquired), Ma lists two sets. Both unwatermarked. Both perforate 14.

Set I: Printed on thin paper (English). Set of 22 stamps.

Set II: Printed on thick paper (Canadian and French). Set of 23 stamps.

Your 1 1/2 cent violet could belong to either set. Same for your 4 cent grey.

The second set includes a second 4-cent variety (bronze green) which is highly valued.

Per Ma, "all truly 'thin' (English paper) stamps measure approx .003" think. All truly 'thick' (Canadian and French paper) stamps measure .0035" and .0040", respectively.

Hope this helps.

Obviously my previous attempt failed.....I'll try again.

Tried 4 times......w/o success.

Looks like these belong to the 1923 issues, so that is where they will go.

Thank you all for your help and patience.
