These are the last of the North Korean stamps. Sadly the ones in the bottom row were partly eaten by mites. Nevertheless, a variety of stamps to look at.

I was not aware that stamps could be eaten by mites. Anyone else aware of this problem and how to prevent it?

Very common in Australia.
Google "Silverfish"
I keep plastic mothball containers in my stamp safes.
No problems with odours etc , no need to overdo it, just make it uncomfortable for the little devils.
Humidity is the background problem. They need moisture.

Google
Did you know: Though silverfish will eat protein-rich foods, carbohydrates in the forms of sugars and starches are definitely preferred.
Gum Arabic...yummy.

As a biologist, let me just say mites are arachnids and silverfish are insects.

Well there you go, something learned.
I had always treated "mites" as a generic term for any "creepy crawly"
Ergo Bed Bugs Insects
Dust mites spiders

FYI Test for Silverfish.. roll a lightly damp newspaper up, and place where you think they may assemble.

I think another reason they were so easily eaten is that the stamps feel like thin paper, unlike the texture of most of the stamps I have seen. Kinda like newspaper.
