Well finally got permission from " Canadian County Atlas Digital Project" Read reply below.. Quote: Dear Robert,
Your email was forwarded to me by my colleague in the university archives, as I'm the librarian responsible for maps in our collection. You are most welcome to download any of the maps in our Canadian County Atlas Digital Project website if they're for personal use. You would only need our permission if you intend to publish any of the images. As you know I got the original post deleted after everyone said watch out for law suites...Now I am here with over 1500+ maps to enjoy..Cool, eh..?? Robert

Hi Robert, Yes, you got specific permission to use them only for personal use. But this permission is not for publishing or redistributing them to others. Don |

Don..I believe it says publishing as I creating book for monetary reasons..Says, ok for personal use..And I believe anyone else would have the same agreement...I read it as NO commercial use...Interesting to see what others read in the reply. I am quite sure that 'personal use' does NOT mean that you redistribute images like Johnny Appleseed of the internet.
But what you, I, or others here think is not important. Email them back and ask them if you have permission to redistribute their images. (When you ask for permission, you should define how you intent to use their work.) Don |

No problem at all, you can send and share the maps at will. As they're already on the internet, we assume that anyone at all can access them.

Since we do not see your side of the email exchange, I am unsure if they fully understand the potential extent of your intent. That said, their generosity merits the return academic professionalism for every image that you use or that you forward to others (for personal use) have the courtesy to contain a full bibliographic citation to its map/atlas title and webpage source. Their requirement for permission to publish would still be in effect from the first email you shared above. |

Best of luck with your research, and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions about the collection.

Means it is okay for anybody to use and access as research as long as they are not using for monetary gain. |

Wert, you didn't fully disclose your intentions to them that you had downloaded 1500+ maps and were intending to essentially become a secondary supplier. I wonder how they would react if they saw this thread. Frankly, I am not sure why you want to get involved to this level, rather than just promoting the link to their site and letting each collector find their own maps. |

Quote: and were intending to essentially become a secondary supplier John..Not my intention..Just to help collectors who do not possibly know where to search for maps, to be able to assist them quicker..I have NO intention of becoming a supplier king. Quote: I am not sure why you want to get involved to this level, rather than just promoting the link I use these for Post office purposes...If anyone thinks I am doing wrong, remember, I enjoy this hobby..I use them for personal purpose only...Some times I feel I am being beat up, when all I have in the back of my mind is to enjoy stamps..That all. Wert, From your first thread which was deleted, it was clearly your intention to distribute maps to others, rather than just supplying links. This is still in my mind and the foundation upon which I build my comments. |
