Question About Scott 1203 & 1204

Hi

Today I picked up five sheets of Scott 1204 at face value. Looking at the sheets I noticed a difference in the inverted print on stamps on the left side of the sheet versus the remaining stamps. The yellow portion on the left row of the sheets is absent whereas not so much on the other stamps.







Looking in Scott there is no distinction between the two different types. I realize these stamps were deliberately made this way after discovery of the 1203 error. Guess I'm just flyspecking here.

I believe all the sheets look like this. The absence of the yellow on the far left stamps is because the yellow plate shift was to the right. Since the plate was shifted to the right there was no more plate to color that spot. That's the long and short of it. I'm sure others will weigh in.

There were articles written about this years ago discussing how the only way to see the complete yellow invert was at the right sheet margin. I believe it was in Linn's in the the early 80's.
