Bought this item from the APS stamp store for about 1/2 catalog. Thought I was getting a good deal.

I decided to have it expertized, and good thing I did:

Opinion rendered: United States Scott No. R613, used, genuine, cleaned cancel.

Quite a difference from a $475 stamp and $70 stamp.

The last four stamps I bought from APS were also not as described (hinged instead of NH as listed). Because of their age, I had APSE certify them before shipping. Nice unexpected bills for the sellers from APSE and refunds for me.

I won't buy anything pre-1920 from APS now without a certificate or certification before shipping.

In a previous post it was revealed that the APS can not check all stamps in the Stamp Store. It is always a good idea to be careful no matter where you get your stamp. Personally I have not had any bad experiences with the store

Did they share what led them to conclude that there was a cleaned cancel? Discoloration on the right side of profile?

Nope. That was pretty much the entire email I received.

All it takes is a UV lamp. A cleaned cancel will almost always show up under one.
