I would have never got the answer, but are you sure Monaco has ever been a French colony? I thought the principalty had bucked the trend and never become part of France. Please correct me if needed.

Not really a colony in the sense of the foreign territories taken over by
France by various means in Africa, Asia and America. Originally a part of the Holy Roman Empire, it was governed by the Grimaldi family and various Italian entities after the HRE. France annexed it after the French revolution, but lost it after Napoleon's fall.
