Here we go again. Only a 2 cent incresae? Don't forget about the gst and or hst on top of that. 15% in N.S. Nickle and Dime or better increases for U.S. and other countries. And much more on other rates. They keep disguissing rate hikes as only mentioning the 2c on local mail and will give the other rates later. They never want to release the actual rate increases for all services before hand. Just announce them days before implementation. as most people accept the 2c without question, but people would be disgusted and upset at how much the actual increase is, or should I say cash grab, on all services. Sure they have lost some mail revenue but they picked it up in parcels/ volumes. They own their competition Purolater and who knows what else.
See the prices they charge for items at the counter like boxes, tape and envelopes.

As well they eliminated small packets inside Canada and we are paying well more than double of what they used to cost. I can send the same parcel to the other side of the continent in the U.S. for less on some. They are trying to eliminate parcel rates and have you use xpresspost or more expensive delivery streams. And the delivery time for some of them was made longer last year, but no reduction in rates. Oh no! They got us. Actually pay more, get less. As well, God forbid if you take a parcel to some Post Offices for U.S. or outside country delivery and not electronically fill out a customs form. Some refuse to assist you until you do. What about people who are elderly, don't have web access, or even have a computer or cell phone?

At this rate they will be eliminating all postal counters and those employees, put in a machine where YOU can weigh, measure and you type the info and you use credit card to pay while filming you, get a sticker and put it on and get receipt and push it through a deposit hole. Oh wait, they may have some of those in major centers I understand. Yea, just eliminate more jobs and charge more for less service while putting more people out of a job. Thats progress! Geeee!

My 2 cents worth of rant!

Mike

The last strike with the union has not even been settled yet.

This is why companies that ship through the US are thriving and CP keeps raising rates.

Many small business have been killed due to all the ridiculous things CP does and the cost of shipping, and with the supposed new UPU regulations, it costs over $7 to send a coin or token to the US. And the Union thinks they are hard done by.

And then of course the government killed any CP cost cutting.

I could go on and on but will desist at that point.

Public service request:

Could you please change the thread title to "Upcoming Canada Post Rate Increase"? I realize that this is posted in the Canada forum, but the thread title is visible across the entire site. I saw the thread title from the main page and said to myself "Waitasec! We just HAD a rate increase." and it wasn't until I came to the thread that I saw the nature of the post.

It's all about providing context.

Thanks.

I echo what Dutchman said

If you have a small business, trying to be competitive in a global market, it's becoming harder with the constant rate increases...
