I'm trying to figure out how to spend $90K for 1629 without my wife noticing. I wish someone would bid it up and put me out of my misery!

I watched several lots pass my high water mark so today ended up being strictly spectator sport entertainment for me (albeit not all enjoyable...I'm still kicking myself for not bidding one more time on a cover lot I was really interested in ). But...tomorrow is another day...

Two gripes: I don't like their starting to sound Noblespirit-esque in their descriptions, using click-bait adjectives. That just really bugs me. And, even though I'm fully aware of how nice everyone at Kelleher is (from first-hand experience), the auction calling is getting a little un-professional-sounding as the auctioneer tries to ham it up as part of his routine. Too many inside jokes...and un-funny ones. I suppose having only a handful of bidders in the room makes fooling around more likely, which is fine up to a point, but get on with the bloody auction already...

I mostly agree with you but there is one mitigating factor. Operating live auctions on SAN makes for a slow pace. Live auctions go from 60-100 lots per hour and this leaves a lot of empty time and the auctioneer tries to fill the gap while the Internet Bids come in. In contrast Dutch country refuses to go live for the same reason. They do over 200 lots per hour and there is no time for jokes.

I finally looked at it 1629 and was very relieved to decide that I wouldn't do well with it on ebay so the heat is off. It is a great collection with lots of special items but I was amazed that there were a lot of blank spaces.

Ken R anytime you use any pre-printed album as a worldwide collector your going to have pages were your going to have a lot of blank spaces group together . Yesterday just to cut down on those blank spaces in the Internationals ,I bid and won a nice British Colonies album binder to fill in some of those pesky holes .

In the last 2 years I've sold 3 Big Blue v1 collections that were 90%+ complete and they all had less blank spaces than 1629 but this collection had way more hi value items. 1629 seemed go thru 1946 too.

I listened Ken. The banter made the time go by quicker in general but at times it seemed to slow things down. One thing that bothers me slightly is the at times overly familial relationship between House and some bidders showing itself a bit too much. Several times it irked me when David (?) prompted a bidder for another increment in order to clear an internet or book bidders number. That prompted me to use SAN agent bidding during the auction (and I won). Did somebody else take the podium for the lots from 1629 on? It seemed to be more businesslike and moved much faster. Overall it was enjoyable and I need to get there for the October collections auction when my material goes across the block.

ROGDCAM - I have a big problem with what you described, it should be Illegal and be called on it .

I ran into this behavior years ago at Rasdale . I would have my bid card up and cleared out all other active bidders ,then the auctioneer started with his book bids . I know full well a high percentaged of their lots are owned by the firm or associates of the firm . I dropped my card and then the auctioneer asks for one more bid .....after it happen a few times to me ,I quit playing that game .You ask your friends for one more bid to clean out the unknown bidder .

I watched both days in their entirety. All I walked away with was that hollow feeling in my stomach created by my brain asking 'why didn't you pull the trigger, you idiot?' on several lots I would have liked to own, but ran higher than I originally intended to bid. The same feeling persists today That said, it was an educational two afternoons spent in that it provided a good look at what's hot and what's not, which will come in handy the next time I look to buy for resale and not for my own collections. Next up for me: Harmer's.
