I've never been a stamp collector but have this one stamp that I'd like to know more about if anyone can help me. I've spent some time touring your site - really interesting stuff and I may have to look into this hobby in more detail!

Thanks in advance.

Hi icky2000,

Welcome, and I hope you take up the hobby because of our group !

Your stamp is from the former USSR. Issued in 1985 to commemorate the 12th World Youth and Students Festival in Moscow.

Not a translation!

World Festival of Youth and Students
(Youth Games)

The 12th games were held in Moscow in 1985, 26,000 participants, 157 countries attending.

The symbol is Olympic-like but I am not sure if it has to do with the olympics or not. Because of the costs involved it is held mostly in communist countries. The motto for 1985 was 'For Anti-Imperialist Solidarity, Peace and Friendship'. Cheesh, way to mix ideas up, eh?

Interesting pins from ebay:

Also, if you're interested, the stamp carries a catalog value of $2.00 in unused mint condition or 75 cents postal used condition. Your stamp does have a few minor blemishes on the image so it may not realize the full value. Scott #5360.
