New Member Looking For Info On Spanish Literature

Hi,
I'm going to be traveling in Spain in a few months and have been trying to find stamp shops or bookstores with philatelic literature that I can buy. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome! One starting spot might be the EDIFIL website which lists their distributors in Spain http://www.edifil.es/es/content/8-distribuidores. There are also a number of brick and mortar stamp shops near the Royal Palace in Madrid. Was in Spain a few years back and it was an evening stroll past them that re-motivated my interest in collecting. Have also considered doing some philatelic book shopping next time I'm in Spain as many of the EDIFIL volumes are expensive enough (~80 euro) before the cost of international shipping is added in.

Thanks for the welcome. Great idea about the EDIFIL website - I just started thinking about looking around for reference material when I am there. I will mostly be in Barcelona and San Sebastian and will cruise the used bookstores there as well as the stamp shops. As I am cataloging my collection, I am finding numerous oddities that are not in Scott, so any reference material will be well used!

Welcome. Being from Barcelona (where I was born and live) and an avid collector of both stamps and old books, perhaps, I can advice some places to look:

During the week, you have a wide offer of second-hand book stores on the carrer d'Aribau (close to plaça Universitat). Open Mo/Sa 10-20h, and on other areas of Barcelona, mainly in Gràcia (at the top of the Passeig de Gràcia).
Mo/We/Fr/Sa you have the market called "Els Encants" on Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes. Open 8 am to 5 pm, you can find all kind of second hand items, and (also) books and stamps.
There are some brick and mortar stamp shops left on the Eixample area. Open 10 to 20.

On Sundays, you have the stamp market of the Plaça Reial (by the lower end of the Rambles) and the second hand book market "Mercat de Sant Antoni". Both markets are open from 9 to 14 h.

I don't have information relating San Sebastián-Donostia. But, being a much smaller city, the offer should be somewhat also smaller.

Thanks so much for the great guidance. I look forward to exploring Barcelona's bookstores - and browsing the tapas bars! We are in Barcelona for 7 days and make a short stop in Tarragona before heading to San Sebastian. The remainder of Spain will have to wait until I have a month to explore!

Well, Barcelona and Tarragona (very interesting Roman ruins) are in Catalonia, not in Spain and San Sebastian is on the Basque Country. For us, Spain is something that lies to the West... Neither a beautiful or friendly land. I never go there!

thanks 51studebaker! What an incredible resource! I have stamps from nearly every country in the world so I will use some of these to increase my knowledge and identify some obscure stuff I have.

Cursus, so sorry, I forgot that Catalonia had declared independence from Spain. Unfortunately, most US news stations don't report World news in detail - or do followups on reports, so I have to admit to not being knowledgeable about most of the rest of the world. I appreciate the clarification!
