Three I happily own. Haiti Airmail covers prepared for Francesco de Pinedo to carry from Haiti to the USA on his historic 1927 "Four Continents" flight, but never made it to their locations. These covers were prepared with special AVION cancels, and with LE CAFE D'HAITI EST LE MEILLEUR promotional slogan (Haitian coffee is the best in the world) as shown. At the last moment, De Pinedo refused to take the mail. Some covers were still sent to US with March 28 postal cancel; others, some were withdrawn. I am actively seeking that one without postmark.

This December 10, 1962 censored, airmail cover from Assiut, Egypt to Richmond, VA, USA is franked with 100 milliemes postage. Pencilled return address on flap indicates it was sent from Pressley Memorial Institute in Assiut. This facility was a longstanding Presbyterian missionary training hospital for girls.

December 1962 is significant because that is when Gamal Abdel Nasser launched the Arab Socialist Union as the country's sole political party, eliminating dissent and guaranteeing destruction for the country's economy over the next 16 years.

This Bolivian 1940 airmail cover has a very nondescript front. Only the recipient's name and address, and the handwritten notation that it was to be sent via LAB Condor is shown. There is no airmail hand stamp or etiquette.

Cover was sent from Cochibamba to Naples, Italy...apparently from one family member to another (Lori Barbaro to Teche Barbaro). The 4 stamps (14.80 bolivianos postage) are cancelled with boxed "airmail service" Cochibamba postmarks of 17 February 1940. The cover arrived in Naples in just 11 days.

In 3 1/2 months, and after the defeat of France, Italy would join the axis side in WWII. Mail from South America would then become much more problematic.

A 1954 non-philatelic cover posted from Paris, France, to San Francisco that I have collected for its different airmail border of aircraft. The border pattern continues on the reverse.

Not a very long flight but over rough ocean...it looks like they had to return to sender as well...round trip 99 years ago.

A N.Y.R.B.A. cover from 21 February, 1930

Here is a registered, airmail special delivery letter from Lvov, USSR (now Lviv, Ukraine) to Philadelphia, Pa., USA. Postmark is January 21, 1957. Philadelphia receiving cancel on back is dated January 30, 1957.

This one is an October 29, 1962 airmail cover from Kainantu, Papua New Guinea to National Geographic Society in Washington, D.C., USA. Kainantu is a small market town in the Eastern Highlands region.

Here is a 1993 registered airmail cover from Vilnius, Lithuania to Brooklyn, NY, USA. Cover is franked with a strip of 3 of the ungummed, imperforate, 30 kopek Vytis stamps, strip of 3 of the 100 kopek Vytis stamps, and a 300 kopeks Vilnius arms stamp.

April 1, 1993 Brooklyn, NY receiving cancel is on the reverse.
