1941 Vienna postmark says "2.WARS" and "WHW-STREETCOLLECTION" but bears no postage. Does someone know anything about this cover? What does street collection mean? Why no postage?

Here's information about the WHW. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winterhilfswerk

Also "Postsache" may refer to item that is postage paid.

Thanks, Battlestamps. Maybe Postsache does mean postage paid, but google translate doesn't recognize it.

It's tricky. Google translate can be tricky at time and the word seems to have a few meanings. This link referred to it as postage paid, but again might not be correct - https://www.collinsdictionary.com/u...sh/postsache

It could just be a free franking since it's related to a "charity".

I believe Battlestamps is correct. The postal markings seem to indicate that the enclosure refers to postal business and was mailed from Post Office 1 in Vienna. Enclosure was probably a bill for the recipient.

Just checked an online dictionary which defined "Postsache" as an "item of post office mail" so maybe that's why it traveled without a stamp.

I believe the cancel is one publicizing the donation campaign for the WHW charity. During this time, various Nazi groups would go out soliciting donations at various times, therefore "street collection". There are many reports of retaliation against people known to have not made a donation or did not donate what was considered enough. You may be aware that the extra charge from 3rd Reich semipostals went into officials pockets and not to charity, so one might assume the same happened with this campaign generally.
