Baaaa! Baaaa!

On March 12, 1980 the U.K. issued a se-tenant strip of 5, 12 p stamps to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. The stamps depict an early steam locomotive ("Rocket") pulling eight cars. One of these stamps (SG #1115) shows a sheep truck.

This set and and many other British stamps from 1964-80 were designed by David Gentleman, who wrote an interesting and well-illustrated little book on British stamp design called Design in Miniature.

On April 18, 1994, Ireland, Faroe Islands, and Iceland jointly issued a EUROPA set of two stamps depicting St. Brendan's Voyages. The Icelandic version of the stamp/design showing St. Brendan on the island with sheep is shown on page 3 of this thread.

Shown here are the Irish (Hib #C668) and Faroe Islands (Facit #260) versions of the stamp. Both the Irish and Faroe Islands sets of this issue were printed by Irish Security Stamp Printing Limited.

Here is the Christmas stamp (SG #1767) from Singapore's February 29, 2008 "Festivals" set of four self adhesives. Value of the stamp was 26c (Sing.) at issue date.

This 40c value (SG #1377) of New Zealand is from the September 18, 1985 Christmas set of three stamps. A modern boy and a lamb are shown following the ancient shepherds.

On November 7, 2007 Jersey issued two different, local rate (35c) "Christmas Songs", horizontal coil rolls with 5 different designs recurring on each. One stamp (Sc #1294b) from the first roll features "While Shepherds Watched" and has an appropriate image.

This August 26, 2008 domestic rate (35 p at time of issue) stamp (Sc #1335b) of Jersey is from a horizontally-oriented coil roll with 5 different "Farm Animals" designs. Stamp depicts a sheep and lambs.

In 2010 these stamps were reissued with a 2010 date replacing the 2008 beneath the bottom frame line.

Here is France's January 20, 1966 .05 fr "makeup stamp" (Sc #1142) showing the coat of arms of the city of Auch, Gascony in the southwest of the country.

A decorated lamb is depicted on the 3.60 kroon value (Sc #450) from Estonia's November 20, 2002 Christmas set of two stamps.

On March 27, 1996 New Zealand issued this 30c value (SG #1928) depicting a sheep herd in "Mackenzie Country" as a part of its 1996-2004 Landscapes definitive series. The Mackenzie Region of New Zealand is on South Island between Christchurch and Queenstown. It includes Aoroki/Mt. Cook National Park.

Here is the 1.50 fr value (Sc #216) from Cameroun's 1931 Paris Colonial Exposition set of four stamps.

This December 3, 2001 90c stamp (Sc #1201) of Liechtenstein is from the Christmas set of 3 values showing old rosary medallions from the collection of the Liechtenstein National Museum in Vaduz. Stamp depicts a nativity scene, including a lamb.

On October 14, 1982 the Federal Republic of Germany (BRD) issued this 60 pf stamp (Mi #1155) commemorating the 400th anniversary of the Gregorian calendar. Stamp depicts a 1586 calendar illumination/illustration by Johannes Rasch.

Here is the 35 pf value (Mi #2201) from the DDR's February 8, 1977 set of four 'Famous Germans' stamps. Stamp depicts agronomist and medical doctor Albrecht Daniel Thaer (1752-1828) and symbols of agriculture, including a sheep.
