I always try to do a good job moderating. The only thing I have seen in this thread are posts which pass an opinion, I am not seeing any condemnations. Nor do I see anyone jumping to conclusions. The value of having a stamp in hand is common sense, but posting this obvious caution is always applicable.

Folks are allowed to make these kinds of threads. pennyblackie did not break any rules, his thread title was posted with a question mark. His OP stated, "I suspect this stamp to have a repaired thin." He choose words which made it clear it was his opinion and avoided stating it as factual.

'Fair use' is applicable, see Terms of Use for this forum ("You consent to the jurisdiction of federal and state courts within the Admin State.") https://www.stampcommunity.org/privacy.asp

I guess it is only me that sees the heavy inking around the spot of the repair which clues me that the defect was there before the ink was placed on the stamp . But the others here jump to a different opinion when only viewing a scan . I have to have the stamp in hand to be sure what is going on .

it would be preferred to have the stamp in hand - obviously.

however, I wouldn't even buy this stamp so that option isn't there.

I've seen enough repairs in my career to know one.

the "heavy inking" is most likely just shades, because the paper is now thicker, and if the stamps been under pressure in an album, like those "lacquer seals" on old letters it will also show on the front, even though they've been placed later than the paper was made.

and I believe Pennyblackie is right to bring this out as an example for others to learn off.

there are 3 types of sellers, those who have no clue, those who are lazy and those who deliberately try to scam people.

Floortrader, yes, but in this case I don't think the fourth is an option?

because a serious dealer would have held this stamp against the light to check for thins or tears, and the spot should have puzzled him.

So in this case, he's one of the 3 above and judging from his response to the person who messaged him, i'd say, lazy.
