I have been in the same situation. Tom @ SAN can't do anything for you. It is between you and the auction house. Contact them direct and explain to them the situation, and they should be more than understanding, and rescind you bid.

Just relax floortrader, call the auction house, and ease your mind of anguish. The auction house will correct any mistakes you may have made.

Just a couple of months ago I placed a bid through stamp auction network and it was incorrect. Too many 000's. It is true that SAN cannot reduce the bid because it would allow minipulation and compromise the integrity for everyone involved. I sent an email to auction company involved and explained my typo error, then called the auctionhouse to verify. They were very understanding and the bids were immediately corrected, on SAN as well, and to the proper amount I wanted to bid. And lucky me still won the lot I had bid on.

The system does work correctly even when humans make a mistake and contact the proper individuals.

Mike

SAN is a Third Party for both national and international Auction and Mail Sale Firms. SAN, in fact, may act only as a "portal" and "aggregator" of Bids/Offers on behalf of their advertisers/client(s) versus acting as an "Agent".

SAN may have no control of correspondence, (like cancellations) other than forwarding to the client and may not, in fact, cancel bids/offers. You need to comply with the individual Terms & Conditions presented by the Auction House/Mail Sale Firm, as they comply with State and Federal Mail Order, Sales and Auction Regulations under §Mail Order Consumer Protection Laws.

I would suggest contacting the Firm holding the Auction or Mail Sale, sending an e-mail of your cancellation request. I would follow-up such correspondence with a hard-copy Registered/Certified Letter notifying the Firm of your cancellation. I would indicate the first "date of cancellation request thru SAN".

Include with your written request to "CANCEL YOUR BID/OFFER" a valid reason for the request. (i.e.; I made an honest mistake; I misread what the offer was; I am having financial problems; I am having an operation; I have unexpected bills; I'm getting divorced; etc., etc.) Firms, normally, do not have problems cancelling a Bid/Offer, when it is received before the advertised "closing date." The only time I have heard of a firm not cancelling a Bid/Offer has been where they have had a consistent problem with a Bidder submitting offers and later cancelling their offer.

On sales held in the U.S.A., each state has Consumer Protection Laws governing Auctions, Mail order Mail Sales Cancellations; and remember, "MAIL SALES" ARE NOT AUCTIONS! I would take the time to check the location of the Firm and the specific Laws of the State there in as well as your Rights as a Consumer under State Consumer Protection Laws.

Unfortunately, many Stamp Firms have had a habit of conveniently "...not knowing" State and Federal Mail Order, Sales and Auction Regulations or Consumer Protection Laws until they are presented and/or challenged by the Law; normally to the embarrassment of the Stamp Firm. Individual countries govern International Auctions and Mail Order Sales. Germany has had the strictest regulations on this subject.

Good luck!
