It's now not P.C. to refer to this operation as the "dead letter office"? Also, many items get recycled rather than processed for possible further delivery?

If many undelivered items get recycled that could explain where some of the missing letters I sent to USA have ended up. I had a few instances where buyer never received lately and it seems postal service world wide has gotten really bad. I am seeing instances of 1-2 months delivery from Australia to USA which is ridiculous. It used to be you send some stamps to America and buyer had them in a week or two. Lately its a lottery. Buyer may get the letter quick, or after 6 weeks, or not at all. I can't pinpoint if the issue is with Australia post or overseas post offices. But the missing ones in USA probably got recycled and a valuable stamped cover destroyed. This weekend alone had 4 complaints of late mail. What's going on? What can be done to stop them destroying mail? I'd rather they return to me if underliverable.
