Yikes and Holy Cow Batman!

I just saw the Israeli set of Scott 552-4 MNH with Tabs in a BIN lot on ebay listed at $5.99. The same set is available for $0.20 and $0.26 on StampWants. Catalog is $0.25.

Selling for 2000+% of catalog - Ain't America great!

You will see a lot of such outrageous pricing coming from dealers outside the US, particularly China. You have to remember that not everyone collecting stamps has or uses a catalog, or even cares about catalog pricing. If they like it and it looks reasonable, some will buy. And sometimes you will see that the highest priced stamp sellers on ebay are the highest rated, and it's because they make more money for ebay, too.

Mate if they don't get you with outrages prices they get you with outrages shipping, you have to do your homework and avoid exorbitant prices,my cataldogs are three years out of date and I can still get a ballpark price out of them so my advice to anyone thinking of building a collection is do your homework.
About time you hit the sack Mick.

Another point that is forgotten is that stamp catalogs don't set prices but are supposed to reflect prices as they exist in the market. If you search for some stamps on StampWants or ebay you may see 20 available, others might just have 10 or 3 or 1. Now which are more common? And if none is available, don't you think that the catalog might be wrong and that the stamp is actually worth more than the catalog suggests? I certainly do.

People who demand everything at half catalog are sometimes just ridiculous. Some stamps might actually be worth less than that (such as some of the readily available earlier issues of Britain and Canada) but some might actually be worth far more.

You're right about the catalog price not necessarily being the true value Larry. I just hope everyone is researching before they buy when they don't really know the value of a set.

Then again, maybe those were magic stamps!
