Re Canada: Can anyone tell me what distinguishes Scott #38i (ca. 1876)? I'm thinking of buying an example and my 2013 edition of Scott's Classics Specialized catalogue lists only #38 and #38a. Eric
Canada 38i is a deep olive green shade of the Montreal printing. Unitrade is indeed a more specialized catalog than Scott. I'm purposely not adding a link to someone selling one since that is advertising for them. You can do the search for yourself and try to compare scans to see what that shade is supposed to be.
Thanks. I did see several scans on various seller sites, but none provided a description of this stamp's distinguishing features. Deep olive green is what I needed to know. Now I wonder know how far we're going to go in giving different catalogue numbers and sub-numbers to increasingly finer distinctions of shade and hue. Feels sometimes like a scheme to keep collectors buying more versions of things they thought the already had. Nonetheless, thanks again.
